Medical Marijuana Edibles for the Sweet Tooth

The P.R. Collective in San Pedro has a menu of medical marijuana products and derivatives that includes sativa, indica, and hybrid marijuana strains, clones, drinks, concentrates, and edibles. But of all the menu items, the edibles may be one of the more common and, perhaps, important products our member-patients use to medicate.

Edibles are an important part of the overall menu for any medical marijuana dispensary. Counter to some popular beliefs, there are a great percentage of patients who prefer to use edible marijuana products (versus inhaled smoke) to soothe the ravages of their ailments. Diseases and maladies such as Alzheimer’s, HIV/AIDS, Arthritis, Cancer, Crohn’s Disease, Glaucoma, Multiple Sclerosis, and other select disabilities respond equally as well to the cannabinoids and terpenophenolic compounds in edibles as in inhaled smoke. Therefore, like with traditional medical marijuana products which are smoked, marijuana edibles provide immediate and, in some cases, lasting relief from the effects of these terrible medical conditions.

Marijuana edibles have been long-recognized as an efficient medication against common disease side effects such as nausea, weakness, pain, spasticity, appetite loss, and wasting. Therefore, the P.R. Collective in San Pedro offers an extensive menu of marijuana-based edibles to meet every partiality and appetite. But of the many marijuana edibles items on the menu, nothing beats those that favor the sweet tooth.

Sweets are considered a sometimes treat in our everyday lives. Sweets are a comfort food, so it’s no surprise that edible sweets are a popular part of the medical marijuana edibles selection on the menu. When you’re feeling down, comfort hits the spot. Potbelly has a great selection of chocolate cookies, caramel crunch cookies, and cakes. Their pumpkin loaf is a favorite request item around the autumn season. The Venice Cookie Co. has chocolate bars, honey sticks, and candies – all infused with derivatives of medical marijuana. Kiva also has a great chocolate bar, by the way. The kind folks at Sensi Roots & Taste Bud Heaven offer a big (500mg) peanut butter cup that comes in either milk chocolate or white chocolate. They also have a great lollipop too. And if you’re perusing the edibles menu at our San Pedro location, ask us about the lemon squares! We get those from time to time. Of course, if you’re partial to sweets but tend to lay off the candy and chocolate varieties, the edibles menu has a great selection of Chronic Tonic drinks that come in delicious flavors such as Orange Orbit, Galaxy Grape, Paradise Punch, Lazy Lemon, and Blueberry. Each 16-ounce bottle contains 3.35g dry cannabis and 34mg THC.

One important note: edible medical marijuana products and drinks offer a much more potent THC effect than you would experience through a traditional smoke, so please begin with no more than a half portion of any edible product.

Legislating Compassion

Anyone who suffers from the physical ravages of Alzheimer’s Disease, HIV/AIDS, Arthritis, Cancer, Crohn’s Disease, Glaucoma, Multiple Sclerosis, or other select disabilities – and uses medical marijuana (or its derivatives) to ease the symptoms of their illnesses – is aware of the ongoing state-to-state battle for the legalization of medical marijuana across the nation.

At present, under the U.S. Controlled Substances Act, the possession of any marijuana or derivatives is classified as a misdemeanor. Marijuana cultivation is a felony. In California, under Proposition 215, patients and their designated primary caregivers are legally allowed to form medical cultivation collectives or cooperatives for the purpose of cultivating and possessing marijuana for personal medical use. This piece of legislation is known as the California Compassionate Use Act of 1996. Right now, during this 2012 voting season, there are seven states with pending legislation to legalize medical marijuana. These states are Arkansas, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Illinois, New York, Massachusetts, and Ohio. On many of these ballots, the summary of these Acts include the word “compassionate” liberally.

Compassion, by definition, is both empathy and sympathy for the suffering of others. When used, compassion is nothing short of transformative. There is an element of human compassion at the root of almost every religious and spiritual tradition and practice. The most enduring religious and spiritual texts speak at length about the importance and benefits of showing genuine compassion for both your friends and your enemies. As the bearer, the act of compassion strips away our indifference and elevates us to a higher level of human consciousness and development. As the recipient, a compassionate act reaffirms our faith in humanity and soothes some of our greatest, most primal fears.

In the practice of cultivating and distributing medical marijuana to combat the effects of terrible, incurable diseases and illnesses, there is much talk about the balance between compassion and fear. Alzheimer’s Disease, HIV/AIDS, Arthritis, Cancer, Crohn’s Disease, Glaucoma, and Multiple Sclerosis are a variety of afflictions that can produce extended periods of nausea, weakness, pain, spasticity, appetite loss, wasting, or other incapacitating symptoms. Each of these symptoms is also marked by a terrific amount of fear in the individual who struggles against them. In the effort to legalize marijuana and bring about a greater understanding of the benefits of this type of medicine, we are, as a people, seeking to tip the balance in favor of compassion and reduce the pain and fear associated with a host of truly horrific diseases.

As medical marijuana advocates in the state of California, who have seen or experienced the benefits of medical marijuana in combating the physical and mental symptoms of terrible diseases, our hope is to see more compassionate lawmakers and voters helping to cut through the tangled legal web surrounding this issue – and to help transform us as a people as well.

Take Advantage of our Medical Marijuana Daily Specials

Everybody loves specials. Whether it’s the early bird special coffee that gets you an extra shot of espresso in your morning latte, or the middle-of-the-week pizza special that nets you extra free toppings on your pie – getting to know your available specials is an awesome way to get more or save more when you really want it most. And although we are a membership-based medical marijuana collective in San Pedro that primarily strives to maintain a wide variety and selection of high quality medicines, we’re all about specials.

At the P.R. Collective (or PRC for short), we offer our member-patients a number of medical marijuana-based wellness products including more than 50 different California-grown Indica, Sativa, and hybrid strains; concentrates such as wax, hash, oils and keif; and edibles that include drinks, cookies, breads, chocolate bars, and lemon squares. We also have a wide selection of specials.

If you’re a new member-patient to the PRC, we offer two great specials to commemorate your membership with our medical marijuana collective. We offer 2 free grams with a $20 contribution or more. And as part of our home-cultivation advocacy program, we also offer a free clone with any contribution. It’s a great way to welcome new members to the PRC.

Our daily specials are probably the most popular special we run at PRC. We have an Early Bird Special that runs from 9am to 11am where any 8th contribution will receive a free 8th of Shake (minimum $20 donation). And if you come by in the afternoon, we also have a Happy Hour Special from 3pm to 6pm where any quarter contribution will receive a free 8th of shake. We also have an Afternoon Hash Happy Hour from 3:30pm to 5:30pm on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday where a contribution toward 1 gram of Bubble Hash will get 1 gram of Bubble Hash free (limit 1 gram). On both Tuesday and Saturday, we have a Clone Special where member-patients who contribute $15 for 1 clone will get 1 clone for free (and this is a no limit special).

We also have a great referral program at the PRC (it’s kind of like a special). If an active member-patient refers a verified patient, the existing member receives 2 free grams of choice.

And there you have it – daily specials on medical marijuana for our member-patients. And although many of our specials have been around for some time, it’s always a good practice to keep an eye on our Daily Specials page here at the P.R. Collective. You never know what medical marijuana product specials may pop up from time to time. Also, keep in mind that the San Pedro PRC Medical Marijuana Dispensary gladly accepts cash contributions, as well as those via VISA and Master Card.
