Genetic Backgrounds: Diablo OG, Roadkill Skunk, Super Lemon Haze

Sativa and Indica are the two major types of marijuana plants that are commonly used for medicinal purposes. In the medical marijuana market, there are many strains and crosses of these two varieties. The properties and resulting effects of the various strains of Sativa and Indica marijuana are very different, with each strain producing a unique profile effect that is specific to the plant.

With a significant difference between these two marijuana plants and their resulting crosses, it is important to know a little about each before you proceed toward a medical marijuana solution for a chronic ailment. When these profiles are better understood by member-patients and growers, the properties inherent to each strain can be easily applied to a number of different health issues as a medicinal.

A quick overview: Sativa has an active profile that stimulates the appetite and the mind. Sativa is also an excellent strain for the elevation of moods and emotions. Indica, on the other hand, has a sleepy profile – one that produces a profoundly-relaxed state. Indica is typically used for muscle spasms, seizures, and stress.

Of the many types of medical marijuana available (where legal and available), three main strains are certainly popular above the rest: Diablo OG, Roadkill Skunk, and Super Lemon Haze (SLH). The following is a brief profile on each.

Diablo OG:
Genetic parentage: Blueberry, Grapefruit and South African Sativa.
Classified as an Indica-dominant, the Diablo OG strain has a 15 to 20% THC range. Has a sticky pine smell with just a hint of lemon. Typically sought to combat medical conditions such as chronic pain, loss of appetite, migraine headaches, side-effects of chemotherapy, stress, persistent anxiety, and insomnia. The profile effect is an instant relaxing of muscles and a mild numbing to the head.

Roadkill Skunk:
Roadkill_SkunkGenetic parentage: Skunk#1 and Afghani.
An Indica-dominant, the Roadkill Skunk strain has a 12 to 15% THC range.
This strain is often used as a medication for inflammation, chronic pain, nausea, anxiety, insomnia, and ailments associated with multiple sclerosis, PTSD, and Crohn’s Disease. The profile effect begins with a big skunky smoke that leads to an incredibly-intense all-body numbing sensation.

Super Lemon Haze (SLH):
Super_Lemon_HazeGenetic parentage: Super Silver Haze and Lemon Skunk.
Classified as a Sativa-dominant strain, the SLH strain has a 20 to 23% THC range. Super Lemon Haze is often used to medicate against migraine headaches, nausea, or loss of appetite, chronic depression, persistent anxiety, and inflammation of certain types of tissues. The profile effect is a dreamlike, yet energetic, state that comes on gradually and lasts a good 2 to 3 hours. The smoke has a delicious sweet lemon aroma.

Medical Marijuana: Indica vs. Sativa

Medical Marijuana: Indica vs. Sativa

The properties and resulting effects of marijuana Sativa and marijuana Indica are very different. For those PRC member-patients that have had little to no experience with both strains, the following information may be used as a guide for selecting particular strains for specific medicinal purposes.

Note: at PRC, our chief goal is to address the health conditions and needs of our member-patients by maintaining a wide variety and selection of high-quality marijuana and cannabis-product medicines that have been shown to consistently provide relief for symptoms of a number of afflictions and diseases that are marked by extended periods of nausea, pain, spasticity, appetite loss, wasting, and other debilitating or painful symptoms.

There are two major types of marijuana plants that are commonly used for medicinal purposes: Sativa and Indica. Each strain or hybrid of a particular strain has a unique effect (or profile) that is specific to the plant. When these profiles are known to member-patients and growers, the properties inherent to each strain or hybrid can be easily applied to a number of different maladies as a medicinal.

Sativa: This strain has what patient-cultivators at the dispensary call an “active profile.” Sativa is typically more stimulating than other strains, in that the resulting effect is one that stimulates appetite, reduces nausea and associated pain or depression. As Sativa stimulates the mind and elevates the emotions, this particular strain can also be used to improve overall mood and well-being. Some member-patients medicate with Sativa to remedy migraine headaches, lack of focus, loss of appetite, and tension.

Indica: The Indica strain has what patient-cultivators at the dispensary call a “sleepy profile,” in that this strain produces an all-over relaxation effect, reduces anxiety, pain, nausea, stimulates appetite, helps with sleep, reduces muscle spasms and tremors. Some member-patients medicate with Indica to remedy headaches, seizures, stress, and problems with inflamed tissues caused by Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis.

If you have further questions about Sativa and Indica marijuana medicinal products available from PRC, please feel free to confer with one of our patient-cultivators during your next visit.
